Response to Run Lola Run

By Henry

Tom Tykwer uses four techniques right through out the film to make Lola a memorable character.

Lola is a memorable character in the film because she is; energetic, fast-paced and active. She is always running through out the film whether it is to save Manni, rob a bank or running away from the police. Tom Tykwer’s camera techniques emphasises this. When Lola is running there is mostly a close up, tracking shot of Lola. This gives the audience a feeling that they are running next to Lola running with her. The camera then zooms out and it feels as if Lola is surpassing you and gradually getting further and further away from you. By using these techniques the director has created an impression of Lola being an energetic, strong willed woman that will go to great lengths to help the people she loves.

A second feature to make Lola a memorable character in the film is music. The type of music they play in the film is fast, up-beat techno which we can immediately associate with Lola’s speedy personality. The music changes in pace as different characters are on screen which helps Lola be more memorable, because  only one specific type of music plays when she is on screen. One example of this is when Manni gets off the phone with Lola and the up-beat music slowly starts getting louder and louder and before you know it Lola is on screen racing off to help Manni.
